More info and pictures to come, but we’re here! Arrived safely in Xi’an yesterday around 11:15. We took a taxi from the airport and our taxi driver got extremely lost—he asked about 6 people for directions. An hour later, and after about half an hour of backtracking, we found the right place. We spent the afternoon playing with the babies, who are adorable. It’s kind of a stressful situation here, as the new director has a very different management style than the head nurse, but hopefully things will work out with time. We went to a local restaurant for dinner with the head nurse and two other volunteers. We had kung pao chicken, Chinese cabbage, fried whole yellow fish, tomato and scrambled eggs, and this other vegetable dish that I think was mushrooms and some sort of chives. Yum. It ended up costing only 12 yuan a piece, or $1.50. Sweet! The most obvious word I can think of to describe Xi’an is dusty. It is smoggy and a lot of the roads are dirt roads. It seems like everything is coated in a film of dust. The people are very helpful, and enamored by us white people. Cracks me up.
That’s all for now, folks. Sending love your way, Anna.
So why/how long are you in China?
