One of the other teachers here, Rose, most graciously invited me over to her apartment last night for dinner. She lives very close to the kindergarten. From the outside, her home looks very run-down, but the inside is very nice, clean, and well-decorated. She has a giant picture of her husband and she on their wedding day, wearing beautifully ornate traditional clothes. She held a white, feathered fan.
Rose, her husband, their toddler son Ray, and her mother-in-law were there, as well as another teacher and her little daughter Linda. Both Ray and Linda attend Zhenjiang Jiangbin Kindergarten.
Rose prepared some "traditional Chinese food" for me. We had goose-meat and vegetable soup, fish, Chinese cabbage, asparagus, and rice. The goose in the soup included bones and skin; one spits out the bones into a little pile on the table. They gave me the drumstick. It was good, but very different. I tried to be as polite as I could but the whole meal was a little awkward.
It was so kind of Rose to have me over!
